What are you reading these days?
I’m always reading or re-reading folklore, the Norse sagas, the Eddas, the Kalevala. The Grottasongr is my current favorite.
My child & I listen to classics on audiobook - The Epic of Gilgamesh is incredibly beautiful. But the Iliad is surprisingly not as enjoyable as I remember - it’s brutal and full of casual rape references. I never thought I would write that but my kid is not enjoying it.
We are also listening to the audio of The Magic if Reality - a little each day at the breakfast table. I could not love Richard Dawkins more than I do.
On a lighter note I just got “My Best Friend’s Exorcism” by Grady Hendrix. It’s a retro 80’s tongue in cheek horror novel inspired by the VHS horror heyday.
How about you? What’s on your nightstand?
Currently reading the Dude te Ching. A serious work on ethics and philosophy?
The DaVinci Code, because christians if they could have their way would love to stone me to death for reading that book
Really? I didn’t know that.
How is it? Aside from the bonus blasphemy or whatever is it a good read?
I tried to read The Satanic Verses a few times for the forbidden factor. It was poetic but I honestly lacked the cultural insight to follow the intent. I couldn’t tell what was humor and I knew I was just missing the meat of it. Listening to the audio book solved it for me, it became engrossing & wonderful instead of challenging, having a good reader to get all the voices and names and tone. I highly recommend it if you ever struggled with it as I did.
I'm STILL reading, "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. I'll never finish it at this rate. Work is consuming my time. Soon school will be taking more of my time as well.
Are you enjoying it or do you feel stuck?
@SinMissing Stuck.
Currently :
The art of happiness - Dalai lama
And the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, because I've never read it before....surprisingly.
