My dog Puck died today. He was a few months shy of 17 years...a good run for a lab/boxer/pittbull mix that normally has a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years. (He went down over the past few days. It was time.)
Told my boyfriend this morning that the appointment was at 5pm. He called his fiancee & she told her boss she had to leave early. They met me at the vet & were with me through it all.
Other friends have called & whether I want it or not, we are having a memorial service for a good dog this weekend. They are setting it up.
The old saw goes that you are known by the company you keep. Looks like I found myself in very good company.
I'm sorry, it's always so hard...glad you have such great people in your life...

An homage to Puck's memory & a healing gesture would be to rescue in his name, as another is waiting for you.
My you find peace & healing soon. He is in the great cosmos of energy that can never be destroyed, only altered in its form.
All of my pets have been rescues. When I'm ready, I will rescue. In the meantime, I plan to volunteer at a local shelter.
Sorry to hear about this. As a dog owner of many years I always recognise that in general we only keep them for 15 years or a bit more and losing them is part of the cycle of being a dog owner. it does not make it any easier and I remember each and every visit to the vets to have them put down.
I find great solace in the knowledge that I gave my dogs a great life many of them coming from rescue shelters.
sending hugs
...so sorry for your loss. It's always hard to lose one of our furry family.....
I am sorry for your loss, as I just went through it with a good cat recently. Sorry to change the subject, & I may have mis-read, & you can certainly tell me it's none of my business, but,...you told your boyfriend who called his fiancee??? Well, I guess you're all friends, more power to you!
Yes. We are poly. She is 1 of my best friends & I think I spend more time with her running around & hitting the gym than I do with him. Feel free to ask any questions you'd like & I will answer.
@SallyInStitches, thanks for satisfying my curiosity, I just happened to read that & I'm the type that has to follow through. I'm a bit of a grammar nazi, too, so all part of the same OCD I guess! I appreciate your openness & honesty!
I'm so with you on this, and am sorry for your loss. Our rescue dog is not doing so well either, and we're not sure how much longer she has. But she's still the most gentle, loyal friend we've ever known. When I was at the vet with her just a few weeks ago, I saw this sign and just had to capture it. So true, for dog lovers like ourselves.
I empathize. My old man dog died a week ago. I’m
sorry for your sadness.
I am very sorry for your loss. I'd like to say it gets better. All I can say, at this time. is the time between bouts of crippling greif becomes longer & longer.
I'm so very sorry. I know all too well how it feels. He was so lucky to have you. Take care of yourself.
17 years is a long time. My cat just turned 16 and she's been the most reliable friend I've ever had
I'm sorry your pet died. My condolences to you and your family.
Sorry for your loss. I can understand all your pain and agony, as I went through similar loss few years ago.
