So, I've been listening to this hokie book called Mars and Venus on a date. It's hokie as can be, but I think I completely understand everything I've been doing wrong in relationships. Man, I have really been sabotaging things. Is there some piece of literature or video, or whatnot, that made you question your approach to relationships?

My partner at the time pleaded me to read part of (Women are from Venus, Men are from mars). she truly believed that it would make me understand something about us . It was truly awful and I certainly disagreed with what it was saying (and I thought it was insulting the intelligence of women) . Don't think the relationship ever recovered. Oh the irony. very sad though.

I’ve read the Game. It can be hokey and I’d never try most of their stuff. But it was eye opening to me.

I’d like to echo someone else on the thread about how good and important it is to become more mindful of our biases and tendencies.

We all see our lives through the filter of our own minds, interpreting everything we see, hear, and feel. We take most of these interpretations for granted, never really seeing the world and the people in it for what it and they really are.

I am lucky that I have had mostly good experiences, but I have still spent a good part of my life with my head in the clouds, not seeing my life clearly, nor beinf truly present. I have achieved this now, to a much greater degree, by doing meditation.

You don’t have to believe anything on insufficient evidence to practice it, you can leave all of the metaphysical new age-y BS at the door. And, there is a steadily growing body of scientific evidence that seems to show that meditation (mindfulness in particular) can help us be less reactive, and even nicer people.

Feel free to message me if you want to discuss more 🙂

No. We either like being together or we don't.

Natural Born Killers or True Romance.
THAT is how you do a love story.

You could read some literature from Rollo Tomasi even if it is primarily for men.

The Tyranny of Malice / Joseph Berke
A bit repititious, but had me questioning and ultimately altering my approach to situations and assessing others reactions to my being.
.
Zen Guitar / Philip Toshio Sudo
Generally about playing music but a good little read on outlook and how to manage life. "Pick it up. Tune it. Play it."
.
The unbearable lightness of being / Milan Kundera
Just a great book. Film version sucked.

Not many people are self aware of their actions which is a real shame but its great that you are seeing how you have played your part in what you feel is sabotaging. Use this knowledge to gain a better understanding of yourself and most importantly to forge a productive and positive future 🙂

@nutrition_nerd it very much is so best of luck with your new found path 🙂
