How many of you actually care about the royal wedding? I wonβt tease you.
I care. You know, I just want to see all the hilarious hats and tiaras. I don't make excuses for myself. But given a choice of royalty between the British royals and Jarvanka, give me the House of Windsor every single time.
Not so much about caring. More about a distraction from the debacle that is running my country currently. The historical spectacle is something a bit unique to the Brits who really put on a show. The fact that Harry has injected some serious new DNA into the lineage is socially progressive. A divorced Catholic, American actress of blended racial heritage is significant for the world. Embrace diversity. You go boy! Plus the women wear compelling hats. That is very important for the vapid crowd.
I couldn't care less. At the same time though I do cringe every time the bride to bes family do something embarrassing
I would like to wish a long and happy life to all of those couples getting married tomorrow, high and low born alike.
English reference to whether you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth or not
(Cigars don't count )
Oh yeah, high born being you were on the 10th floor of the hospital, low born meaning you were on the ground floor. I love it when Americans explain outdated English "references" - if you said such a thing on the streets round here, people would...... well, they'd know you were American! And probably wet themselves laughing.....
@GoldenDoll Brits bore the hell out of me
@springlover And you americans are SO interesting.....
@GoldenDoll at least we don't bow to anyone. and we drink our beer COLD
@springlover Who bows? Are you kidding? The royal family is entertainment for us. Nothing more. And we have cold or tepid beer - a choice.
@GoldenDoll ok. let's quit. friends, I hope?
The only thing that I find in anyway appealing is the brideβs being so far from what was once an acceptable choice. Other than that I could care less.
How much less....exactly ?
(couldn't resist
@Slappy_Longarms Her mom is a yoga instructor and social worker and is African American. Her dad lives in Mexico and they are divorced. Markie is herself an actress and has been divorced from Trevor Engelson. None of that bothers me but not all that long ago, it would have pretty much made her unacceptable for the Royal familyβs views. What I find appealing is that things are changing even with the pomp and ceremony of the Royals. I find that encouraging but everything else about them is what I donβt give a crap about.
@gearl - Very nice thoughts. Mine are that the royal family needed a boost to keep their jobs, and this is a great PR move.
@GoldenDoll That certainly is plausible.
The who ?
No. I wasn't even aware there was one happening.
Now that I do know I didn't need to.
Just a couple of humans making vows in front of a religion-promulgated court. I don't believe in the "Divine Right of Kings" and the idea that one bloodline is more important than another. It's ridiculous and long-outmoded. I've found that even some British people who are non-believers still get upset if you point this out, though.
Well it is better than the Kardashian bull shit nonsense.
I know it's happening, but I don't follow it enough to know when. I'll catch reports on TV, stuff will come across Facebook, and I might pick up a celebrity magazine when it's over. I'd say I have a healthy curiosity and interest. I'm not star-struck, but I do like both of them. I like the young man that Harry has become. I enjoy the pageantry. And I suppose that my inner 7-year-old still dreams of marrying a prince.
And just how do you know what Harry has become? I assume your only information is from the media and mostly tabloid rags and you do not know him personally.
@jlynn37 Do you have an actual question or do you just want to thinly veil your contempt for me (for having a favorable opinion of a famous person based on his public image)?
@carlyhorton Wow, contempt! My dear I have no contempt for you (or anyone), I do not know you and know nothing about you. I am just one who is curious about people and how they think and reason. I wish you well and success in finding what you are searching for here and in your life. Love and Peace.
@jlynn37 Iβm glad it seems to be a miscommunication. The written word can be βheardβ in a tone not intended. Sentences that begin with βAnd just how do you know...β can easily be heard as...well...bitchy.
I donβt follow the royal family, but I do recall that Harry has had a reputation in the past for being a bit of a partier. I heard him more recently in an interview and he came across as a charming, well-spoken, likeable guy. It seems heβs grown out of a bit of a bad-boy phase. He might just have good PR, too.
Also, he and Megan remind me of my nephew and his girlfriend
I doubt I will watch it. I am a monarchist rather than a royalist. That means I believe our constitutional monarchy. It has formed a stable govt for centuries with very little crisis. Unlike many republics. i know its anachronism, having a hereditary head of state but the stability that comes with it is worth a little hypocrisy. Though I dont follow the royals or swoon over their antics. What does piss me off is the left banging on about how much this and that costs and why can
t we do something else with the money. The royal family has it`s own money to pay for this wedding and yes its true the get a wage from the govt. The tourism is just a small part of what they give back. The soft power is immeasurable. The very fact that we are discussing this on what is (for the most part) a USA site is gives testimony to that. You cannot buy advertising like this.
Why do people worship royalty? they do absolutely nothing but live grandly off the backs of the working poor!
Actually, they do loads. And Harry did 10 years military service. I'm not for them. But I do acknowledge that they have a lot of jobs to do, many of which I'm sure they'd rather not.
I donβt see it as worship. We donβt have royalty in the United States. This is just my view of the whole royal wedding. Itβs a fairytale come true, and thereβs a part of me that still loves fairytales. Especially of the romantic nature.
Not at all. I'm of Irish descent & I'm a Yank. So, monarchy in general is a bit of anathema! & the Brit's in particular!
I'm of Irish and Scottish descent. I feel the same as you about the brits
My ex is from England, her grandfather hated the "royal family". In his own words, they are a "Load of rubbash": The whole family is nothing but a bunch of deadbeat leaches!!! I could give a rats ass.......they don't care about me, and I don't care about them.....and I"m okay with that.
I don't care per say....however, I do like Megan. She is really cool and I wish her well
I like her too. She can eat crackers in my bed anytime she wants. She'll get sick of carrot top sooner or later!!!
@FlyingEagle1952 oh buddy, we wish !!!!!
