What is your best comeback when someone asks you "Why are you on this site?" as a way to dismiss your point of view?
I would say, "The better question is why you're not. I'll tell you what, how about you visit the site, maintain an open mind, leave your defensiveness behind, try your best to maintain objectivity and refrain from using confirmation bias or argumentative fallacy in any potential responses. If you're TRULY honest with yourself and devoid of ego and pride, then the answer to your question will be clear. It takes courage to break from the herd and admit whatever happens after death is a mystery for the living. And even greater courage to find peace and contentment in that understanding.
I don't know that I have enough information to understand how that question can indicate the dismissal of a point of view. However, it seems you're certain of this based on your experience.
What I can say is this. If I felt someone were trying to dismiss my point of view, it would tell me that person is not worthy of my efforts to continue the conversation. Even if there is a disagreement in points of view, there are respectful ways of communicating.
If I hadn't lost interest in continuing at this point, it would be fair to ask "Is this making you feel unsettled or uncomfortable? That question tells me you've changed the subject."
Now they have to acknowledge what you've said (the point of view that was dismissed) or spend the next 15 minutes explaining how they don't have a nervous disorder.
@TheMiddleWay
Why am I on this site? This is agnostic.com, so "I don't know."
That's an odd question. I'm here for the people and their like-minded posts. Some I disagree with and say so should it be the case but that's few and far between
cause i got tired of tagged and most sites are pay to play it took me a long time to even start investigating facebook is more to see family and politics and aff is for getting peckers not sure about this yet
Assuming someone would ask me about this posting here I suppose I'd answer that it's terrifying to be surrounded by people who believe in space angels. And I kinda want to meet someone who isn't insane.
I’m here because it’s fun, educational and nobody gives me shit for having a good firm grasp on reality.
Does this happen to you often?
@TheMiddleWay So, really, why are you on this site?
Because I like to speak with intelligent people.
You're welcome.
To learn from all of the great minds on here, such as yourself.
Because I have a right to be. Have a problem with that? Take it up with Admin.
