Really interesting to read about. They put a nice spin on it. Was there any people not wanting the line to go through? Considering how much I love to learn about history and look at what they are learning when they excavate, I am really sometimes having problems with digging up graves and stealing the contents to put in some museum's cellar. Homes that were abandoned is one thing. But a grave is another. Dig the person up, look at their stuff, then put them AND their stuff in the new place. As you can imagine, I will be cremated and don't care after that.

The ones who were buried with their stuff , no longer care either . Perhaps they'd prefer being in a neat and clean , weather controlled museum drawer . to being parked in the mud under ground .

Leaving anything in the ground is pretty much a waste of resources, and education. And fur shur a waste of ground.

I am conflicted. Here in Lansing some very historic buildings were removed because of the dollar cost to make them useful. Again the short-minded triumphed and we lost a bit of history that embodied We have lost much in the past 50 years that we should not have.
Yet, if some hings are not removed those of us now and soon to be will have little space to contribute to the betterment of all of us.
There are reasons to replace the found bits where they were found. What might be learned from them the next time they are dis-covered and subject to new ideas and techniques for analyses.

But there are good reasons to museum the bits.

The part that makes me crazy is current inhabitants of the land proclaim their right of ownership of anything more than a couple hundred years old. The current "Egyptiens" do NOT own any of the artifacts from the peoples who built them and/or buried them.
The pyramids belong to humanity. The current occupants of the land are ONLY the current custodians of the human endeavours uncovered from that space on the planet.
If they do not protect our past they should be replaced.
The zionists currently in control of archeology in palestine are some of the most egregious at present, refusing many uncovered items to be viewed by the non-insane.
