Neanderthals made repeated use of the ancient settlement of βEin Qashish, Israel
...and to look at that "settlement"...makes me wonder...how could that hill be there? Why is the land around it so flat....could it have been an early burial ground? Could that "mound" be human-made?
The mound is likely a tell, the accumulation of centuries of settlement. Then, as now, folks built on the garbage of their ancestors.
@Arouet So imagine all the historic artifacts buried there!!
Most likely there isn't much in there, but it would have been made as a high ground as this is a flood plain. There is something just like this here in IL.
@Robecology Read (or re-read) James Michener's "The Source", a very well written novel about a Middle-Eastern tell, the things that can be found at the various levels, and the story behind each. It's fiction, but well-researched fiction.
