Finally!!! My first pet snake (when I was growing up in IN) was a rough keeled Green Snake. They are wild down here in GA. I've been watching for one for 21 years since I moved south. I saw this beauty as I pulled into my driveway yesterday! Notice the tail tip in the third photo. This was a LONG, slender specimen...
A little wild one in the Arboretum in Madison, WI.
"Lilith", a garter snake awakes from her long winter slumber, with a male in hot pursuit.
Looks like spring has indeed sprung! I grew up in IN where the garter snakes looked just like these. Neat!
Cute! Do they get much bigger than that? I could probably handle it as a pet if it doesn't.
They grow to 2-3 feet in length and are very slender. The one I handled yesterday was just over 2 feet long, but less than a half inch wide. My experience was that they are very sensitive to stress and do not fare well in captivity. Garter snakes don't get very large (2 ft, maybe 0.75-1 inch wide) and were quite hardy as pets.

Posted by InsectraA cute grey treefrog (Hyla versicolor) that I found in my birch tree, this afternoon. His camouflage was great and I only discovered him when I heard him calling.
