My blacklights have been on since just before dark. I took my first look at the sheet about 10 minutes ago. Lots of typical moths: zales, laughers, orthosias, emeralds. AND THEN.... This guy! My first giant waterbug (Lethocerus americanus) of the year. Another perk of living near the Susquehanna River.

I just moved to a house across the street from a creek that empties into the river. My son and I are already discovering all sorts of cool critters

And they can bite you under water...it doesn’t really hurt, but it freaks me out...absolutely not my favorite critter.

I hate those and fear them. I get creeped out by the eggs on the dad's back. I've only seen one live one, living in the desert, I don't get the opportunity
