My coworker brings in his dog sometimes and she left me a tick as a present one day. Dropped it right on my lap. Luckily I had an empty water bottle so I was able to trap the asshole before he could do anything.
The only time I've ever had one on me was when I worked in the garden center at Walmart. Surprising, considering I spent a huge amount of my time outside as a kid. Still hate them though.
Ticks are the one insect I wouldn't feel sad about going extinct.. and to make it worse, I swear I am a tick magnet. It's like the bastards grow wings to get to me. Just the other week, I had to deliver some equipment into the middle of some wetlands. I kept my time outside my truck as minimal as I could. I found 9 ticks on me and 4 inside my truck. When I used to walk to my old job, sometimes I'd pop into the woods to look for something interesting and with in minutes spot a tick on my legs. Once I spotted something, walked off the sidewalk and into the woods, not even 10 steps.. and came out with 3 ticks on me. I seriously hate ticks.. The only thing I find somewhat interesting is their co-evolution with the diseases they carry.
@LifelongLearner I actually got Lyme disease when I was about 10 years old. Grew up in the middle of nowhere surrounded by 100s of acres of forests. Whenever I wasn't sleeping or at school, I was pretty much exploring the woods. I'd come home at night covered in ticks.. but one time it was one of those damn deer ticks and it gave me Lyme. Pretty sure that's where my tick magnetism comes from. Much like how mosquitoes are more attracted to a person with malaria. Seemed like after I got Lyme, I'd come home with more ticks on me. My dad said there were some nights he'd find 20+ ticks on me.
So I dislike ticks very much. If I could Thanos snap them out of existence, I would.. and I doubt it'd have a serious effect on our food web.
I'm probably going to go to the doctor in a day or so if I don't feel better. 1 of the 9 ticks I found on me the other week, I didn't find unil 3 days later. Damn thing was embedded in me. Before I found it, I started getting headaches and feeling sick. Like a mild flu/strep.. but strep just made its rounds at my daughter's daycare so I am hoping it's that and not another tick-borne disease.
I know , they're not the most favored of creatures. And yet, I find them to be admirable in their ability to accomplish the task of latching on and getting a drink .
@LifelongLearner I hear ya - anyone who takes blood from me without permission, generally does not go free ...
all life has its place
@LifelongLearner of course
