Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.They say that the light comes from electromagnetic energy, which at some frequencies is light. Interesting in that there are many creatures who have luminescence, but do not live close enough to the surface of the ocean to get any light. So where does the energy come from. These creatures changing one frequency for another, I am trying to make sense of this. There is much in the spectrum of electromagnetic energy above the frequency of light we can see. So this means that they are taking energy from ultra-violet or x-ray's and giving off visible light. Quite a feat, as in large doses this can be quite dangerous for us.

I think deep sea creatures are more bioluminescent than bioflourescent, meaning their light comes from a chemical reaction within their own bodies instead of from absorbed energy. Still interesting that some creatures evolved in such a way to benefit from something that is harmful to others. Although, I suspect that works for all evolutionary traits.
