When I don't know what to do with myself, I go to Sullivan county. Always neat stuff to be found! I found 4 of the 6 species of snakes I expected to see up at that elevation. The only 2 missing were the Eastern milksnake and the northern watersnake. These are: smooth green snake, red-bellied and ringneck snakes, ventrally, to show color; Eastern gartersnake; ringneck snake; and red bellied and ringneck snakes. I found 16 snakes, in total, with 8 under one rock!

Except for the garter snake, those are species that I rarely see now. Were you at World's End?

I believe the northern water snake is our least patient snake.

are ringnecks the size of large earthworms on average?

@Insectra would they be in northern Alabama? I was picking up rocks there and there were so many at first I thought they were worms. Iridescent

Ahh. Ring necks I’ve found 68 in one day!!! The green snake is a bucket list find for me!

Is that common for there to be a bunch of them in one place?

Glorious day you had with snakes!
