Hi @Clare, I'm sorry to hear of your loss but hope that with this great bunch of members of Agnostics you will find the niche and rewards that you so reasonably seek.
My younger sister and only remaining sibling died a few years ago as a result of Alzheimer's disease. We were not close mentally or physically, I only saw her once in the last 30 years as she was on the other side of the world from me.
Ms Black looks good and healthy and I hope will be a good companion to you for years to come. My old girl is now 21 and has stayed with me since she was a tiny kitten found straying on the street - she has just come meowing at me and plonked herself down to have her back stroked with the ball of my foot as I write this.
Hello and Welcome
8)
I've been thinking that it might be neat to fill my home with black cats as I understand they can be difficult to get adopted.
The actual current issue is surprisingly being reported as "Difficult to photograph". People want a pet they can put in a selfie!
You do need daylight or back lighting to get good pics... But I'll take wonderful cat over well photographed any day!
My Raz is utterly black so that if he closes his eyes he sometimes vanishes in plain sight. (Even his whiskers are black). And no I'm not buying white furniture! lol
I belong to a Black Cat group on FB and people actually being afraid of Black Cats is greatly diminishing. Also we have a Pope to thank for that bit of crap.
In other countries Black Cats are considered Good Luck! I'll go with that.
@Clare @RavenCT I'm led to believe that is the case in Australia where white cats are believed to be unlucky. Mine is a tortoiseshell now 21 yo. There is a photo of her on my page.
Talking of black I was once very attached to a neighbour's black German Shepherd / Alsatian that used to silently creep up behind me in the dark and push his head between my legs for a good head rub. I never got one though and the neighbour left at the end of their 6 month lease. I got a daughter instead! 8)
@FrayedBear OMG that dog! rofl "High Jump!".
I think you have a very pretty calico. 21 yo is amazing!
@RavenCT Thank you. She has had a lot of love, attention and cans of Whiskas casserole! Three teeth had to be removed last 18/12 so now she will only eat the loaf tins which are much softer. Fresh meat she will still eat if chopped into tiny chunks. She has got very loud the last couple of years now caterwauling...not fun when I've only had two or three hours sleep like this morning.
@Clare lol. That was exactly how the black Alsation used to sneak up over 50 meters of open ground.
@RavenCT You call "tortoiseshells" "calicos" over there?
@FrayedBear Well your tortie has white in her coat? So we call that a Calico. If I'd realized you were in another country I would have stopped myself. Because I know sometimes we say things differently. lol This is a pic of my Tortie Willow (Since passed). I never truly captured all the colors in her coat. (Ok not loading will come back and try to add pic later.). But she was all shades of browns.
@FrayedBear Ok I messaged you her photo. Also torties are almost never male? About 1 in 1 million births? She was female.
@RavenCT Thanks l havent got to my messages yet. You can see my PussPuss on my page waiting to be let in at the front door amonst the concrete gnomes and kittens still awaiting their colouring.
I love black cats too. I have had two in my life. The first was named Shadow. I had another named Inky...she passed away a few years ago but she lived a very long time (close to 20 years). She was very social talkative/loud and a headbutter
These are my current companions Maddie (calico), and Vir (tiger striped).
I would boop those noses strictly based on the markings!
@RavenCT What does "boop" mean?
@FrayedBear To touch lightly on the nose! "Boop" is the sound you make while you do it.
@RavenCT ok with it! In her younger days PussPuss would have bared my flesh to the bone. Now she would merely glare at me for having woken her up without having a bowl of food for her in my hand.

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
