I thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.

I know some of us here have discussed having those feelings as well.

I had a cat in Texas that would open doors to get inside or outside. She also helped protect the dog.

I had one cat that was perfect for me, she will forever and always be my heart cat. I love my current girlies, but my heart cat was perfect. She was very people bonded, loved to sleep snuggled up to me. She passed just a few weeks before the first grandchild was born.

I understand. Chloe was that for me/us. It's not a matter of loving the others less, but it's definitely different. I like that: your "heart cat."

@Lauren I used to nap when the kids were at school, I'd have the dog (golden retriever) curled up against my back and the cat curled up in front of me, and I'd have the heated mattress pad on. It was like sleeping in a cocoon. The cat was the boss of the golden, it was just adorable!

@HippieChick58 Ohhhhh, and you had a Golden, too! I had one years ago and (as you no doubt feel about yours) he was the best dog in the world. What a heavenly way to nap!

@Lauren Chief was the bestest doggo ever. I spent many hours training him. He was trained to hand signals and would ring a jingle bell when he wanted to go out in the yard. He got out once and was across the street. He started running to me, but a car was coming, so I gave him the signal for down, and he sat down, the car passed, and I released him and he ran home. He was intimidated by the small cat. She would steal his food while he was eating, and she'd play with his tail! It was amazing to watch. They have both gone on to the Rainbow Bridge. I doubt I ever have another dog, but I don't want to ever live without a cat.

They may be gone too soon, but they are always in our hearts.
