Has anyone tried to get their cats to use a toilet. I have a friend who told me that there is a kit one can get that helps to train for this. Does anyone have experience with this. Would really be a great thing as no kitty litter to mess with.

I'm sticking with the litter box for my gang. I'm sure I could get one or two trained but would still need the litter box.

I worry about someone forgetting and closing the lid. Or visitors might do that. Leaving the kitty in distress.

Wouldn't even try to make them change their natural instincts...Just wrong in my opinion...Kittie Shits...I clean it up!!!! end of subject. Not my style.

I trained two of mine, years ago. Bought a sitz bath and filled it with flushable litter. After they got used to the new 'litterbox' position, I cut gradually larger holes until they were just using the toilet. They did not seem to mind. Got another cat and they much preferred the litter box. Haven't ever tried again, but the kit sounds interesting...

I tried it once . My cat was used to the kitty litter , so I put some litter in the plastic training thing that went on the toilet bowl . Unfortunately the weight of the litter plus the weight of the cat , all wound up in the toilet bowl. Definitely scared the cat .

No, I like the lid closed on the toilet when its not in use. It would always need to be open for kitty, & I hate walking into a bathroom with an open toilet hole.

I'm told it's not the best for them because the position is awkward.

You can get a flushable unit that fits near your own toilet or washer outlet - this allows them to squat in their normal manner.

Units are expensive though running near $200 - and you have to buy granules for the unit once a month.
