ES&S has at times been less-than-transparent about employing lobbyists and the campaign donations made by those lobbyists, as Philadelphia Inquirer reported last year. Its use of lobbyists was the subject of a New Yorker piece called "How voting-machine lobbyists undermine the democratic process."

@rogerbenham Right! the deeper you look the murkier it gets. I usually try not to buy into conspiracies but with corporate election machinery mixed with emerging technologies, these company's not beholden to voters and taxpayers I feel, are profiting at the expense of democracy from poor oversight or else wise corruption by incumbents. Although many of the states require paper ballots for when results are contested, it seems Kentucky has a few things to answer for in terms of their skewed numbers, and lately Republicans in the US seem to be grasping for anything available.
