Do other countries have ranked voting? What do people think of the idea? Personally, I kind of like the idea of it...
Australia has "preferential voting", voting for your preferences in order, which I think must be roughly the same as Canada. Australia has compulsory voting too -- which I also think is a good idea. New Zealand, where I am, has proportional representation -- which I think is not as good, though far better than first-past-the-post (takes all the spoils) that the US and UK subscribe to.
One problem with Ranked Choice Voting is th cost to the political partie, candidates, counties and states. In order to conduct a fair election, three would have to have new softwarre created and sold to the governing entities. New computer system need to be in place. Ranked voting only works if there are no primaries and at least four candidates per opening. Secondary level candidates just do no have the money to complete with the major two parties. It also requires a well politically educated popuation, which we do not have. If we did, we would be complaining about President Clinton instead of Trump.
