Yesterday my class went to a crossfit sort of class that nearly killed off half of us. It was a great workout, very challenging, & I got some ideas on how to better my own fitness routine. For us beginners it was brutal.
Anyone here do crossfit or anything similar? I've heard mixed things about it & was just curious to see what people think about it.
You do whatever workout will get you to your goals that you enjoy and are safe. Having said that I'm not a big fan of crossfit. A lot of the movements they do are explosive and will pound your joints which for many people is not a long term option for fitness. Also because of the explosiveness of these exercises form is paramount. From what I've seen of crossfit in person and on TV their form definitely leaves something to be desired. One final thing: I usually see them do their lifts without weight belts. Progressive resistance whole body exercises over time and without a weight belt WILL thicken your gut. Even if it's lean nobody wants a thick abdominal wall.
Wow, so they're really trying to kill these people in these classes. I knew it. Population controls are not safe.
I belong to a CF type gym and know a lot about the sport. The naysayers are usually either ignorant (that is, uninformed) or jealous. FInd a box, they don't call them gyms, join. Watch your fitness level increase faster than you can believe. Whatever shape you are in the workout will be scaled for you.

Posted by SilviaParkI had my first triathlon in Sunday, an indoor USATri60. Lots of room for improvement, but I'm just a beginner swimmer, and haven't taken my bike on the road yet :)
