Have any of you ever heard of the negative regulator growth differentiation factor (GDF8 ) otherwise known as myostatin?

Yes, but the only thing I know about it is that it works against greater muscle production, I don't know what else it does, and what its byproducts do.

I think so. But where would I have read that?

It's possible to read a whole book on just Myostatin alone. I kid you not, they have it on Amazon. We probably have a whole book on every chemical, now.

@DZhukovin Amazon sucks eggs. Bezos' human rights infractions against his own employees is unacceptable.
I'll read more on myostatin via other means. If only there was a free peerreviewed journals accessibility site. Even on a periodic free trial basis, then I could read about myostatin from clinical studies

@VAH1979 nice to teach me that VAH1979, thank you. I have a phone browser. I'll look now. I'm surprised you can get whole journal articles and not just a 3 paragraph abstract of the article.

@VAH1979 pub med is great too. There was a new one I just stumbled across. I'll find it again and post here.

@DianeFitzRobin

Whatever lol

So instead, it's possible to just torrent or download the EPUB for the book, and then use a free EPUB file reader to read it.

@DZhukovin another great idea! Thank you, as well, for teaching me that, I appreciate it

@DianeFitzRobin Yup. I think pretty much any book is available in EPUB format, I think.

Myostatin is a protein that inhibits muscle growth. Catabolic hormones actually break down muscle tissue. Bodybuilding community and medical community are very interested in its inhibition to promote muscle growth for appearance and to fight muscle wasting diseases. Whether suppressing myostatin actually increases strength is still being studied. Some cattle have been bred for a genetic mutation were they essentially have no myostatin. Amazing pictures of these freakishly muscular cattle. [chaosandpain.com]
I know my link is more for muscleheads than scientists but still interesting.

@VAH1979 The musclehead article was referencing scientific studies. Original source material is always better but not being a chemist or biologist I find something like my link easier to understand as as they site sources.

@VAH1979 Also I posted this link because my muscle nerdiness was interested in epicatechin as a myostatin inhibitor. ?

I've seen those cattle. It's pretty insane how they look lol. Very curious to follow the research in this area.

@livetodiscover Was just at my supplement store to see if he had some epicatechin to try. He thought one of his suppliers had some. If you find an interesting article would you please send me a link?

@VAH1979 I love Google scholar, pub med, there's a few more I can't think of off the top of my head. Also having access to a university library is great too. I can't wait for next semester to start!!!

Edit: sci hub and academia.edu are others
