My apologies to the agnostic women reading this - on behalf of (formerly) religious men...

Pope Innocent VIII, the eighth.

Made this decree today, almost 600 years ago.

Women today still aren't on an equal footing with men in our world...but we're closer...

And yes. I'm a hetero male.

Seems to me the Saudi's executed someone for witchcraft in the mid 2000s.

Yes see my edit below, The Saudis actually have a department of the police dedicated to witch hunting. They believe in it absolutely and even being a particularly good Doctor or pharmacist who save too many lives can have you accused of being a witch and locked up or killed.

It went on a lot longer than that, the last witch trial in the UK was of Helen Duncan in 1945, and the last one in the USA was in 1972 but was avoided by the the declaration and recognition of Witchcraft as a religion, however Wicca and the practice thereof was still a federal crime until 1986 when it was abolished as a result the case of Dettmer v Landon.
In some states, reading Tarrot cards is still illegal as is fortune telling and animal sacrifice with the sole exception of the Kaparot ritual in Judaism. In this ritual scapegoating it is apparently legitimate to place your sins of the past year magically in to a chicken. This done by having a Rabbi hold said chicken over your head and shake it to death, or if it does not die of shock by ritually cutting it's throat with a magic knife and then giving it to the poor to eat. (Recently an alternate version has been adopted by some less orthodox Jews of having the Rabbi shake a bag of money donated by the supplicant equaling the cost of the chicken over the head of the sinner and then donating the money to a suitable Jewish charity, such as the local synagogue.)

Conversely there are still 10 counties in the world where Witchcraft or magic is still punishable by anything up to and including death
