When I was young, the opinions of others mattered to me. Now that I am old, pfffft.

Exactly! Especially men’s opinions because they think they can judge your looks, your actions and everything else.

@Killtheskyfairy when I was in my 40s and lost 100 pounds, the attention was flattering at first. Then, I was resentful because men whom I knew who never said more than two words to me when I was obese "suddenly" hit on me.

I also find it annoying when women critique other women. I see videos on YouTube with headlines such as "Look younger by cutting your hair" and telling women they should dress a certain way so they don't look "old." I am old. This is how I look, how I wear my hair, and how I dress. It is also cruel because many older women are on fixed incomes and don't have the money to buy clothes as fashion changes.

As for cutting the hair (because old women don't look good with long hair), I will bet that I get a LOT more attention because of my long hair than women who crop theirs short to fit a cultural standard. However, my intent is not to get attention--I just like my hair long.
