I like succulents and sedum. Our gardens have several so I decided to make a planter and fill it with succulents. I wanted something different so I designed it in the shape of our backyard garden. It was difficult to obtain the exact shape but I'm happy with the result. The first one was a failure and fell apart. The concrete I used was given to me years ago and was no longer any good. It was good practice to get it right the second time.

Really like both the garden and the planter!

@bigpawbullets
Thank you! The garden transformed over the years to what it is today.

Thank you! If I ever build another it's going to be square.

Very nice design.

@Artistlover
My wife designed the shape of the garden and the planter is as close as I could get to her design.

So you built the planter? Can you give me more details? I'm thinking of building a few things here as well.
What do you do with succulents and sedum during winter?

Zoohome Level 8 Nov 17, 2018

@Zoohome
I consider them “evergreen”. They turn a different colour and look cool in the snow.
The planter was a tedious task. I used (construction grade Styrofoam insulation board) and cut the design out of it. Three layers of Styrofoam were used to get the thickness of the planter. The centre cut out piece was made smaller and used as the mould in the centre of the planter. When you pour the concrete the planter is upside down.
I wanted drainage holes in the bottom so I put a pipe in the concrete before it set. Make sure to tamp the concrete to get bubbles out.
It's so much easier to use wood and build a square planter.

@flower_nut but why simplify it we can complicate a new project? ?
Very nice. Thank you!

@Zoohome
I know what you mean!
Have fun with your project however it works for you.

I love them too. They are rugged and easily withstand our southern heat.

They're very drought tolerant and overwinter easily for me.
