Do you like the trellis for the honeysuckle?

I love honeysuckle. I am planning on adding some to my carport to give it some beauty and a privacy screen.

@Zoohome
This is the perfect stuff to use. Direct the runners where you want them to go. I used twist ties to tie it to the railing. Keep an eye on it though...it eats carports if you let it 🙂

@flower_nut thanks! How does it do on cold weather?

@Zoohome It loses its leaves. Makes great forts along fence rows.

@Zoohome
It's kind of a semi-evergreen for us here in Nova Scotia. It will eventually lose its leaves. The further south you are the more evergreen it becomes.
This photo was taken yesterday and it still has all its leaves.

While I love Honeysuckle , it tends to grow in the same space with poison ivy , which causes me great pain .

@Cast1es
I don't even know what poison ivy looks like. I've heard the stories but have never had contact with any.

Really like the spider day lily. Do you know its name ?

@Fernapple
If you mean the last one it's called Radiation Biohazard. I consider this photo a mutant flower. It only has 4 petals when it should have 6.

The handrail to nowhere! Love it!

@AstralSmoke
I couldn't figure out how to use the handrails so they wouldn't look so weird. I like how they taper down from the garage. You can't notice the railing eventually. They disappear as the vines travel to nowhere🙂

Nice. I had a bougainvillea on a wooden trellis like the one in your other pic but up against my house like the first. Damn thing got so heavy it kept falling over til I finally just drilled it into the wall lol

@Flexymorals
Wow!... I won't let it get that big. This one goes crazy if you don't watch out. Vines run far and fast. Hiding behind the siding it travels around to the back of the garage. It only needs one runner to turn into a bush.

Is it the red honeysuckle?

freeofgod Level 8 Jan 4, 2019

@freeofgod
This one is a 'Hall's Japanese Honeysuckle'. We have a 'Red Tip Honeysuckle' but it's only a foot high in 10 years and never bloomed for us. We're pushing the gardening zone with the red tip.

@flower_nut ,I had a wild one that was really red. Not the barely pink ones that are often called red. But I really don't think red ones grow in the wild. Probably came from an old homestead.

@freeofgod
We also have a 'Dropmore Scarlet Honeysuckle'. This one doesn't smell as strong as the Hall's Honeysuckle.

@flower_nut, that's the one. But brighter. So much depends on the soil and climate.

@freeofgod
I agree with you. The dropmore scarlet honeysuckle struggles with pests eating the new growth. It grows much slower and the soil isn't as rich. I've never had to trim the dropmore. It's planted in the front gardens with full sun.

@flower_nut ,never had a problem with ours. It thrived. Nothing bothered it except the hummingbirds but that's the way it's supposed to be.

I love it.

Yes, nice to have the extra dimension!

@itsmedammit
This honeysuckle was cut back to the ground in 2016. It covered the side of the garage and was climbing on the roof. It loves the spot it's planted in!

@MissKathleen
I didn't bury any 🙂 but the soil is well-composted material.
