My compost heap is underperforming lately, and I want to add a starter/booster.
Anyone have a suggestion/favorite?
Could just be the outside temperature, you need at least a constant 60F for it to work.
Fresh grass mowings in a bunch mixed in the center work well, if you don't have them at this time, then urine. I see several others have said that already, but I will add that it is best watered in the center with three/four times as much water, so do it in a bucket first.
Pee in it. Urine is a quick way to heat up you compost
Fresh Pee is pretty much sterile. I even make organic miracle grow out of my urine
@FlippantLlama lol they make funnels.
My late former father in law was a chemical engineer, he would save his urine and pour it on the compost heap. I asked him why he didn't just skip the measuring cup and go out to the heap, and he said, "neighbors." Apparently he would do it after dark, the measuring cup held the daylight hours output. TMI?
You beat me to it
LOL....I was going to concur (about the urine help) but hesitated...until now!
Mine is frozen solid, only suggestion I have is wait till spring
Coffee grounds are my go-to favorite....and if you ask your local coffee shop they'll save bags of left over grounds for you! I think Starbucks does this nation wide...but you'll have to just ask...
