I have always been a gardener, even living in apartment I would have a full blown vegetable garden in 5 gallon buckets on my balcony. Most of my yard is garden, I am not a fan of grass. I even have a house. I have a row of raised beds next to my driveway so I can just come out the front door in summer and pick my dinner. And although they are not in any of the pictures, I have lots and lots of flowers as well.
Are these current photos? All I have that's green is a ploycultural cover crop in my raised beds. Still too cold. I think it's going to be a late planting season north of Lubbock.
Sadly no, this is last spring, we had snow this morning.
We're supposed to have rain tomorrow. First moisture since September.
You're a man after my own heart. I have been shrinking the grass in my yard, grass is a waste of time and resources. I have two 4x4 raised beds right now. I have a back yard with a huge slope. If I had the finances I'd have it terraced and plant less labor intensive stuff and more food. As it is anything besides grass that is planted now washes toward the house. I am hoping in a couple more weeks I will be able to plant my tomatoes. 27 degress this morning.
I have bees so if I thought I could get away with it I would just make my yard a field of wild flowers. Albeit a very small field, I have a relatively tiny yard.
@ThomasLevi I want bees! I would need to fence my yard first, and I am working too many hours right now. But I've done some reading and dreaming.
@HippieChick58 A fence is not going to keep the bees in
@ThomasLevi it would be to keep the neighbor brats out. The Robert Frost quote makes sense, Good fences make good neighbors. Don't want the uncontrolled minor messing with a hive and getting stung, or knocking it over. I'm in the burbs.
Thatβs awesome more people should make better use of their yards to grow food
Absolutely!
Impressive!
You wouldn't say that at the end of the summer, it gets a little wild.
