Well known Australian Psychologist specialising in human sexuality, Bettina Arndt has recently released a letter asking everyone to take it, sign it and return it for sending to the Hon Kelly O'Dwyer, Minister for Women in the Australian Federal Government.
In the letter she makes impassioned plea that current attempts to resolve domestic violence cease to portray men merely as perpetrators. As she points out much violence is by women. Furthermore she highlights alcohol as the most frequent trigger for violence.

I have personally know many abusive women with their partners nothing happened to tbem. A woman could say domestic violence without proof and have a person imprisoned falsely.

Just look at some of the comments made on this thread.

In some cases I'm sure that's true, but don't think that men are such a special case. There are scores of women in their graves even after reporting abuse and no action was taken.

@pinkyandthebrain I'm not saying that that doesn't happen but when you say that the overwhelming majority of abuse cases are phony and not to be taken seriously you're wrong. often, men will not report it to the police. As I've said in a previous comment, men are often too Macho and have too much pride to admit they're being beaten on by a woman.

Fact of the matter is if a woman is beating a man she's going to go to jail. I can understand in our Macho culture that exists, also in Australia ,that oftentimes that's probably not the case. Here in America domestic abuse normally results in both male and female going to jail.

If only it was the case here!

@FrayedBear I'm sure it is. Men oftentimes don't report it out of shame, and women are oftentimes afraid of being killed if they do. this article does state that there is no evidence that the lack of respect for women has anything to do with why so many women are killed by our partners each year.

@Kojaksmom possibly comparable to suicide - the ratio of attempts to success female:male.

@FrayedBear toxic masculinity is always the culprit. Beating, raping, using, killing and diminishing females is a part of the unspoken characteristics that have been/ are acceptable signs of masculinity. Women also greatly outnumber men in depression diagnosis. And sexual assault against women is so common that the headlines will read comatose woman gives birth to a healthy child possible assult being investigated. The headline should read, brain dead woman is violently repeatedly raped and neglected in care facility.

Female initiated violence is atypical. The exceptions prove the rule...
