I wasn't sure where to post this, but here may be a good spot, as the level of one's emotional maturity has a direct impact on the relationships we have.
The "intelligence" should have been replaced with "maturity", but the article brings up good points.

As an addictions counselor I teach (Emotional Intelligence) EQ in my life skills groups. The skills involved were not ever learned or were lost to the addiction. Self awareness is the first step to recovery.
