I also posted this in a different group as a reply to woman who went on a date with someone she met on a matchmaking site, but won’t date him again because he’s a republican:

It used to be that most people could disagree politically, but accept each others points of view. It didn’t mean you had to like the opposing view yourself, nor did mean the other person had to like yours. But by and large we agreed to disagree. My grandparents were good examples - my grandpa was a republican and my grandma was a staunch democrat. But they loved, adored, and had the utmost respect for each other.

It’s sad that today this is no longer the case, and I say this as someone who didn’t vote for Trump! I have friends who did, and that is their right. I didn’t stop being their friend just as they didn’t stop being my friend because I voted for Gary Johnson. But friends who were Clinton supporters jumped my ass for “throwing away my vote.” Give me a f••kin’ break. Clinton carried my state, but they still criticized me. All I could ask them is, what the f••k more did they want? I didn’t like Trump or Clinton, but I did like Johnson’s record from when he was governor of New Mexico and Bill Weld’s when he was governor of Massachusetts. So I guess that makes me a complete outcast in both camps. So be it. I guess I’m in real trouble this election because I don’t like any candidate in either of the major parties.

Many of the same people who preach tolerance need to practice what they preach. The world isn’t “black and white.” It’s better to be “gray.”

I could only date someone I respect. That’s rules out most Republicans.

I agree. People are multifaceted and I have as hard time dismissing someone because of one facet of their personality.

The nicest man I ever dated was a Republican. I was very unhappy with his politics, but he was very, very kind to me. Toward the end of his life (he passed in 1995) he began to talk about marriage or moving in together. I said "No - dating you is fine, but if we lived in the same house, within a month one of us would be dead." Every time an election year came around, he would tell me who to vote for. Of course, I voted my conscience and we would fight and break up for awhile. Then he would come back - he missed me - and we would get along fine until the next pres. election came around. So, dating him was fine. Living in the same house - NO NO NO.

Just a thought. Before tRump, & Rep. Newton Gingrich Republicans often worked with the Dems. There are still two Republicans at the local level I vote for.

I have friends and family who voted for Trump, they are still my friend and well you can't undo family, but I will not be in a relationship or fuck anyone who is a trump supporter. Nor would I be in a relationship with a Christian, it comes down to different value system.

Why would any woman date a guy who condones rape? A guy who believes she should not have control over her own body? A guy who believes women are property?

There's one great way to eliminate hate and greed from society: stop fucking republicons!

While I might fuck one in a emergency that's it for republicans( there are some hot republican women but keep one never) . I may not like all the democrats but anyone is better than trump.

I wouldn't date a republican either.... I might have a conversation with one but never date one...

The difference between trump supporters and humans is far greater than a difference of opinion. Trumpists are psychopaths. Their worldview values greed, hate, and ignorance. A real human can pity a trumpist, but love one?

Part of the problem currently with many Trump supporters is there is a cult-like aspect to it that distinguish them from the previous generations of Republicans, with whom I had little problem on a personal level. Many Trump supporters are generally ignorant of many of the traditional values and ideals that guided previous generations of Republicans and instead emphasize culture war issues such as immigration and religion. They operate based on a different set of "facts" which come from different sources than other people. They demean people who have different values with terms like "libtards" and "social justice warriors." Whereas before you could kind of discuss varied interpretations of the same basic set of facts, nowadays liberals and Trump supporters can't even agree on what's real and what's "fake." Personally it's hard for me to feel very good about a person who admires the same person who is celebrated by Nazis and the KKK. It's not that I don't tolerate them, and I try to understand and dialog whenever possible, but it's a definite killer for any personal relationship.

There is a vast difference between a Trump supporter and some who had basic conservative values. Someone who voted for Trump was willing to put a sexual predator, a man who mocked people with disabilities and who lacks the mental capacity to do the job in office because they thought it would benefit them in some way. Which it hasnt. And none of them cared about his impact on the country or the world. So no, I have no tolerance for that. Anyone who voted for him is not a good person in my mind. They are selfish and delusional.

It's one thing to agree or disagree about politics , particularly in a different period of culture . It's quite another to believe that your partner should be treated with a slave owner mentality . When a man feels his woman should not have access to birth control and oh , by the way , he feels no obligation to support the children he creates ? That's her responsibility , even though she won't be earning the same salary as the men who are her coworkers , doing the same work . And yes , it does cost her more to be prepared for her job . I went onto a barber shop to get my hair cut . Because I was a woman , he told me I'd need a double appointment . I told him my hair is both fine and thin and I didn't need a double appointment . He didn't need even one full appointment , but still charged me for two . Dry cleaners are the same way . They charge more to clean a woman's blouse than to clean a man's shirt . The signs do not say they charge extra for ruffles . It says they charge more for a woman's blouse . Ever try to get away wearing socks to an office job - pantyhose cost more than socks , but socks aren't acceptable as women's office clothing . Even women with higher education and extreme high level skills , not only do not earn the same salary , but men often take official credit for the best work they produce . And we're supposed to agree with these comments and beliefs ? ? ?

The disagreement is not about politics, it is about much more fundamental values. No trumpies for me.......

Mitch07102 Level 8 Feb 26, 2020

@rsb97080 nobody is forcing you to oppose good legislation.

I agree. I am tired of people bashing others...those are the people dividing our country. They want their opinion heard...at all cost.

2

lot of political differences, I voted different than my parents and lot of my coffee groups vote many ways, but the big thing is just, vote,,you have done your part ,But a lot of people like me do not disclose which party they voted for I just say i voted,,your vote is personal and does not have to be general knowledge

RoyMillar Level 9 Feb 26, 2020

I do not participate in the voting polls , as the results od them do cause some people to vote a certain way ,results should be released after the election to see if they matched up

There is a difference in being friends and dating in re to politics.

MizJ Level 8 Feb 26, 2020

@rsb97080 At one time the difference between Republicans and Democrats were slim. Since 2000 the gap has expanded and tRump simply blew it wide apart.

@rsb97080 Just because one doesn't want to date someone politically their opposite doesn't automatically imply that they are not polite, we all have our preferences.

@rsb97080 If you really believe it'just politicians acting like ass, you haven't been paying attention.
