Isn't the discussion on gun laws about guns? Any reference to assault weapons in this topic obviously pertains to assault rifles. And it's also obvious that, in the general sense, there is a difference between assault rifles and rifles. And, in the general sense, there is a difference between assault rifles and handguns.

There's no point in asking others to clarify the distinction between these types of guns because the simple act of asking proves that you know exactly what they mean when they use the adjective "assault" for the noun "weapon". In the scope of this topic, it clearly doesn't mean a baseball bat, nor a machete, nor a slingshot, nor a car, etc. You just want to catch them out on a technicality.

If you don't really know what they mean when they refer to "assault weapons", you wouldn't be overly sensitive about the topic and you wouldn't feel the need to state your case for gun rights.
