I think you can celebrate life with simple pleasures. The smell of flowers, a guilty cookie break, the smile that comes when you hear children at play, crawling into crisp clean sheets and so on. As I age I find pleasure in most everything. As a younger woman I expected perfection in myself and wanted it in others. That never works.
there is a good reason why it is not easy. Life is not all good. Misery and death happen every moment of every day. We have to ignore that fact to be "celebratory".
@Jonado I don't think celebratory has to be a party either. I am not saying one shouldn't celebrate from time to time. I am saying it is impossible to celebrate misery and loss. I suppose it all comes down to the definition of "celebrate". MW is kind of a mixed bag.
We, as far as I know, don't say "We are gathered here to celebrate the death of a loved one". We say ". . .the life of a loved one" even though they are in fact dead. That is what I am saying. Even at the funeral we are trying to ignore the loss. Thinking about loss sucks.
If I think about my wife being dead for like a few seconds, I get sad. Even if I think of the good times I eventually start thinking how there will never be good times with her again because she is dead and I get sad. Right now, I can only be joyous when my late wife is out of mind.
It's only been 12 weeks. Maybe things will change, but I don't see how.
