Hello group, I started looking around a little on the site and found this group. I lost my husband June 22, 2018. Just a few weeks now. I've been seeing a grief counselor and it seems to help somewhat. I have a wonderful family, two son's and their families to support me. Night time seems to be the worst part of the day for me. That's when I miss him the most. No one to say goodnight to or sleep with. I wake up every morning at 4 am and cannot get back to sleep. I realized that the reason I may be waking at that time is because that is when my husband started having a difficult time breathing so I went to his hospital bedside (the VA sent us a hospital bed for him to be more comfortable) and held his hand until he took his last breath at 4:15. I suppose it's my body reacting to his death at that time. Has anyone else had something like this happen to them? The waking up at a specific time I mean. Thank you for reading. Any suggestions for getting back to sleep would be appreciated as I'm not getting much sleep and it's really becoming difficult to function day to day.
it is really recent for you and i would imagine the sleep issue is a common one research seems to show that setting a fixed bedtime and waking time helps with some sleep disorders as the bodies clock eventually follows it however in your circumstance that may be difficult to do perhaps discuss with medical staff a short course of medication to help you get into a rythm lack of sleep is truly horrible as it accentuates all the other issues you may be suffering from good luck
But also, I found this link in another group here.
[seculartherapy.org]
It's a list of secular counselors around the country.
Many thanks for the link.
I am so sorry for your loss. My husband died 5 years ago next month. Unfortunately, time helps. I'm glad you are seeing a counselor. I'm also glad you found this group. Wonderful people here, who understand and have stood in your shoes.
It just takes time. And support.
So sorry for your loss. A suggestion for sleep. What works for me is taking several, deep breaths and then concentrate only on breathing. Don’t let any thoughts in. I can emphasize. My husband died in the night and for a while I was waking up....missing him. I know it’s hard. Wish I could help. Sending energy and good thoughts your way.
My condolences on the passing of your husband. My wife passed on the 5th of June and I know what you were going through I don't really have any more words to say
