My favourite classical composers are probably Grieg & Sibelius….both Scandinavian of course…I just seem to be drawn to those moody Nordics don’t I?
Jean Sibelius’s Finlandia Suite is a wonderfully stirring piece of music and I can understand why many regard the last movement as the unofficial Finnish national anthem, it’s already sung as a Christian hymn throughout the world as…Be Still My Soul…and I’m including both the orchestral piece performed by the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra and a beautiful choral version of the hymn performed a Capella by Voices 8.

Wonderfully pleasant music Marje! The video of nature and animals is fabulous! Love those little bears, and the birds learning to fly!!

Yes…it’s a beautiful nature video…

Dvorak s Slavonic Dances and the New World Symphony are among my favourites

I like all of them as well…as I like this piece. It’s not an either/or siruation. Go ahead and post Dvorak…as I have done many times in the past…

Lovely sound great piece of music. but too churchy for my taste

That’s only because words have been added to the last movement…it wasn’t written as a hymn.

you can't go past Grieg Peer Gynt suite and his Holberg suite

Of course I love both of them too…that goes without saying, but I didn’t post either of them today. What are your thoughts on Finlandia? .
