We often hear the great music of Scandinavian classical composers Grieg & Sibelius performed, less often do we hear the music of another great Scandinavian composer Carl Nielsen. Nielsen is Denmark’s most famous musical son, a composer, conductor and violinist, he was born in 1865 and demonstrated his musical ability at a very young age. This one of his compositions is titled Underlige Aftenlufte which translates as Mysterious Evening Breezes, and is set to words written in 1805 by Danish poet Adam Oehlenschlager. It’s performed by musical chorale Ars Nova Copenhagen.
My dads favorite composers were Mahler, Sibelius and Nielsen. I've heard very little of Nielsen's work. Thank you for this.
My pleasure…only a very small offering!
@Marionville Sometimes making a remark brings back a memory. One of dad's brothers loved Wagner. Whenever we visited him he would turn on the stereo very loud and play some Wagner. My dad would nod and say very nice, Joe (but he didn't mean it).
Lovely! I knew little about Nielson, actually thought he was more modern, I don;t think I ever sang his music. Nice chandelier.
He died in 1931…aged 66, so is really considered chiefly as a 20th century composer.
