Somewhat jingoistic? I thought that it was equally big in Russia.
Sad that it was sung to ghastly American country sound. Eric Bogle vented his ire on audience members requesting Dylan songs he sadly didn't write it about Nashville :
Perhaps you will better understand why I appreciated Benny Hill's "Strolling Ones"!
@FrayedBear Hockey is the Canadian National sport. Ice hockey was born here. This is almost a National Anthm.

Pseudo folk music.
Benny Hill was also good at it.
@FrayedBear I never liked Benny Hill. Lavatory humour. He came once to my school. Garbage. You can keep him.
@rogerbenham in comparison to the Glaswegian Billy Connolly he was quite mild. Both however were unpretentious. It wasn't until the last 20 years that I've come to appreciate him. The Strolling Ones satire I appreciated never having been a Stones follower & Colleen amazed me with his mock accent.
@FrayedBear Billy Connoly gave higher class lavatory humour.I liked his more recent humour. "What we did on our holidays" was a classic movie.

@FrayedBear No. I gave up TV in 1979. I have a DVD player attached to computer. Rarely use it.

Yesterday I read an article on failing eyesight being a very early indicator of impending Alzheimer's. One suggested preventative measure was watching TV.
@FrayedBear I would regard that advice as dubious.
