I always find it interesting to hear how songs get written, what inspires musicians to write what they do and why. My own favourite band a-ha have two main songwriters Pal Waaktaar & Magne Furuholmen, guitarist & keyboardist respectively, and their most recent album True North released in 2022 had an even split of 6 songs from each of them on it. The theme of the whole album and its accompanying video, which was filmed and recorded live in Bodo inside the Arctic circle in the far north of Norway, is about the environment around this part of Norway…the seas and shorelines and the hardy population who live and work in such beautiful but harsh and sometimes perilous places. One of the songs written by Magne is Bluest Of Blue which he says he was inspired to write whilst he was actually sailing in his own boat on the Norwegian Sea …here first he sings the demo of the song and then I’ve included the finished song from the album with lead singer Morten Harket doing the vocals….
Yes, it works. A quiet pleasant song.
Glad you enjoyed.
WOW! Thanks again!
My pleasure…of course! I love promoting these guys they’re just so good…
I saw an interview that singer- writer Christopher Cross gave in the 80’s. He wrote Arthur’s Theme for that 1981 movie. One line, “When you get caught between the Moon and New York City” came to him as he was in a holding pattern on a flight. On one side of the plane you can see the Moon and the other is NYC. Very simple sometimes.
I think I will post something from Cross.
Yes…do, we don’t hear enough from him.
