The French “Barcarolle” is a style of musical composition with a rhythm reminiscent of the strokes made by a bargee or gondolier steering a barge on a river or canal. One of the best known Barcarolles is by Jacques Offenbach from Tales of Hoffmann…the duet Belle Nuit, o Nuit D’Amour, sung here by soprano Fatma Said and mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa accompanied by Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra.
