Much Hawaiian music is like this, but the genre has a lot more depth than most people are aware of, I think, ranging from this style to very traditional, to almost Bluegrass/folk style, to operatic. An original to The Islands, as far as I know, is slack key guitar, a style that sounds like the name. It was developed to economize on guitar strings by loosening them so they wouldn't break as often, as strings were not always easy to come by. Sorry, probably tmi.
