I just took a look at Mars. Could barely make out a tiny polar cap and nothing else on the planet. Last week there were dark markings visible, so, yes the dust storm is in full swing. bummer for seeing any detail. Lets hope it subsides soon

Wow. Sounds like a cool sight.

It is, last night was more of the same bland disk. O well, there is always Jupiter and Saturn to look at.

Look up a local astronomy club, they'll have star parties once in a while and are open to the public so you can see for yourself

So sad. Bad timing...but there Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn are up!

Yup, I had a look at Jupiter through the 8 in. a few nights ago that was the best I have ever had. Much delicate detail. We are under a "high" here in the SW so the air around midnight was very still.

8 in. F/7 Newtonian reflector on a dobsonian mount. The scope's almost 40 years old. Has a coulter mirror and I assembled the scope around the mirror.

Wow! What kind of telescope did you use?

Posted by starwatcher-alI missed the early phases of the eclipse but the clouds mostly left during totality. All in all a great eclipse. Next one is Nov. 8-22
