Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.While beautiful pictures of Powehi (the M87 Black Hole) has captured much international interest this past week - let us remember that the published picture that has been released is NOT what Powehi really looks like. The published picture, including the very beautiful and artistic coloration, is really a "visual" rendition of the radio, sub-millimeter, etc., waves and rays that have been converted into a "visual" display. And an artist rendered it in beautiful color. It is somewhat tragic that those who promote astronomy - including the builders of some of the largest telescopes to ever be built - don't always clarify the artificial "images" that they release for public consumption. Things up there aren't always as "true" as what they appear in "visual pictures." And, as these pictures of Powehi are clarified - it really isn't Powehi that it is a picture of - it is a "visual rendition" picture of the "shadow" of Powehi - as Black Holes DO NOT allow any light (to take "visual" pictures with) to emanate from their interiors.
