Hello all. I have been an amateur astronomer for the past 60 years and just now saw this group. Should be interesting.
So, what do you like to do as an amateur astronomer? Are you a member of a club? NSN? AL? Observing? Photography? Photometry? Spectroscopy??
I am mostly a visual observer although I have dabbled in low-tech photography. I have my own observatory, 13 in - 8 in - 77mm Tele Vue and a Questar that is 50 years old. Just recently bought a PST. Fascinating watching the sun even through that small scope
@starwatcher-al Wow! Looks like you are set to explore the universe! PST's are great! Too bad we're so close to solar minimum (and a deep one at that). I don't have a lot of land so, no observatory. I have a 18" f5 Starsplitter dob. 12" Meade Lightbridge, 5" Explore Scientific ED/APO, old 10" Meade SCT, 5" Orion Mak Cass, 4" Televue Genesis, and 80mm Coronado Ha. I use the Light Bridge the most. Skies in MD are...well...it's MD. Do a little photography but mostly visual. Hoping for some great views of Mars in July. What do you like to observe?
@AstroLou A little bit of everything. I enjoy giving star parties for the locals whenever I can get a group together. Yeah, that little PST does give a decent view of the prominences for it's size. I took one hand held shot and actually got one.
@starwatcher-al Nice prominence! Glad you're spreading the joy of astronomy to others. I like giving star parties as well. If you ever need some NASA space science education materials for a public event, let me know. ???

Posted by starwatcher-alSolar minimum was in 2019 so the sun is ramping up in flares, spots and prominences.
Posted by starwatcher-alI missed the early phases of the eclipse but the clouds mostly left during totality. All in all a great eclipse. Next one is Nov. 8-22

Posted by starwatcher-al Did you know that you can see Venus in the daytime?
Posted by starwatcher-alOne of these days I think that I'll figure out this Nikon.
