I'm heading out to the CA central valley this weekend (on the way to San Francisco) to one of it's darkest spots (class 2-3 Bortle scale)! If anyone else is in the area let me know and we can observe together. I'll have my new 8" goto Dob with me!
Wow... I wish I could find a dark sky! That's going to be fantastic... I live in England where you can barely get a mile from any town before you're seeing the lights of the next and where there's virtually nowhere one can stand without hearing a bypass or a motorway in the distance.
Yeah... I'm originally from the UK, too... not the best clear sky sites... that's for sure! Cornwall and up north are about it, and even then you've got to deal with the cloud cover. Still... I'm constantly thinking of moving back, so I'm trying to get in as much observing now while I can! If you ever vacation out here send me a msg and maybe we can observe one night. -G

Posted by starwatcher-alSolar minimum was in 2019 so the sun is ramping up in flares, spots and prominences.
Posted by starwatcher-alI missed the early phases of the eclipse but the clouds mostly left during totality. All in all a great eclipse. Next one is Nov. 8-22
