Well, for the first time in years we have had really decent rainfall here Far Western N.S.W.
It started with the usual drizzly showers late Wednesday evening ( more like spit and dribbles) then Thursday night it seemed to get a bit heavier and steadier until yesterday when it just kept on, not heavy rain that would just cause run-off only, but good soaking rain.
Checked my Rain gauge about 20 minutes ago, expecting to find that perhaps we had gotten the very rare 5-10 mms of rain had fallen only to see that it registered a wonderful 32 mms ( about 1.25" in the old measurements) and the skies are still heavily overcast and the Relative Humidity is around 87%.
Not quite enough to break the grip of the Drought out here but a good sign that the B.o.M. predictions of a La Nina weather Effect may be well and truly on the cards at last.
Maybe now we out here will start to see greenery where once, for years now, all we've seen are the remnants of dead or dying grasses, starving/dead animals and bare dried out, dusty brown earth.
And I wish I were in hot Thailand, away from the miserable Australian cold winter weather, standing at a social place drinking a non alcoholic beverage, chatting with some nice local ladies about the matters of philosophy or some such. Oh, in case I didn't mention it, I hate Australia in winter.
Enjoy your rain. Personally I don't like it. I have leak at the back of my house.
Oh I definitely willenjoy this most welcome rainfall as will the dried out and dying countryside, the animals both native and non-native, the vegetation, the Graziers and the hopes of not having another Summer of raging Dust-storms the likes of which we've been getting over the last 5 years or more.
