The same should be done to the net owners - 8 platypi killed in yabbi net in Melbourne's Werribee river:
We don't have platypi up here but I still prefer to use the older type of open topped drop nets when fishing for yabbies.
Of course you don't catch as many as you would using the Opera house type but at least no air breathing creatures can drown in them.
I've only had yabbi once and was somewhat disgusted that one that I was given was crawling with pups.
@FrayedBear Then who ever caught it and didn't throw her and the young back into the water needs a very firm and solid kick in the arse for starters.
@Triphid Sadly long dead and as he only had one leg, lost it in the Pyrmont shunting yards . . .
@Triphid Aboriginal Chinese +55 other varieties.
@FrayedBear Sadly, but very much like how we lost a Shunter out here when the idiot Head Shunter, known as 'Shady Lane' waved the Loco to go forward while Schultzie was still in between 2 wagons trying to set up the couplings so they'd lock together.
The couplers came together and crushed his abdomen, Schultzie was still alive but as soon as the oupings were released he died from the injuries and the sudden rush of blood back into the rest of his body from his lower extremities.
@Triphid I heard of exactly the same injury elsewhere. This chap I met when helping run MEJ - Men For Equal Justice - trying to counter the misandry at the Gosford magistrate's court.
@FrayedBear Before they started taking those steel, spring loaded buffets off of Locos and Rolling Stock there numerous deaths caused by workers getting crushed in between the Buffers.
