The cedar waxwings are in my yard today. They are intent on stripping every berry off every plant, so far they have gotten the chinese photinia, hackberries, privetts, holy, and are finishing the mexican fan palm.
Funny, I always hear about the big gluttonous flocks but around here they are fairly uncommon and I've never seen more than 1/2 dozen at a time.
Never seen one of these, impressive feathers . . .
Pretty sure they are only western North American, uncommon to see even here because they like higher altitudes and deep forests and only come to human areas in bad weather
Lovely! I agree that many of the more subtly-colored birds have their own kind of beauty. For us easterners, I'd add wood thrushes to those that you list.
