Next thing I tried was a stainless steel mesh cage filled with bird goodies and hanging from a tough string. (but open at the top), I thought there’s no way the Rooks are going to get at it... It worked OK for while, then I saw this Rook stand ...

I got really lucky to watch this Kestrel some years ago in the Canary Isles, it was hunting lizards and it caught one and devoured it but it was about 100 yards away, so not great resolution...

A sure sign that Spring isn't far off: the killdeer are back! It was only 19°F today, but three killdeer were still hunting the open water and soft ground along the edge of the Amish pond.

Enjoyed a week of dog walks along the San Dieguito Lagoon section of the Coast to Crest Trail in Del Mar. Handsome pair of ospreys in a huge nest - really need a better camera lol!
