Our local Artist Trading Card collective has a "good stuff" swap twice a year during a regular meet. You can bring stuff for other people to take and you can take as much stuff as you want from what others have brought. You can take home your leftovers or leave stuff behind for donation to a local community centre. For my daughter and I, it tends to help mostly in the sense of "Look at this really cool stuff I brought home - so sparkly ..." "You know you'll never use that." "But it's sparkly."
We, quilters, have our "stashes" for all those future projects that we may get to, or not!
I often tell people that my house is "littered with the bones of former hobbies.". Half-empty bottles of paint, partial skeins of yarn, partial sets of tools... And I never take the time to sit down, go through it all, find a place for duplicates, etc. So, for example, I'm pretty sure I have at least three sets of jewelry-making tools in this house, but there's only one that I can actually locate. It's sad, really.
You're not alone!?
Finding storage space and keeping the supplies organized - another activity all its own
I have always thought it would be a good idea to organize each other's house, but then i thougt: no.no. no, they will steal all the good wool! My precious! It brings out the Gollum in me.
@Spinliesel lol!
@Spinliesel You express it so well! LOL
Every now and again, my daughter organizes. We now have an entire (large) drawer devoted entirely to glues and tapes.
Right?! I have such good intentions. I currently have millions of beads, stones, findings, wire, and tools(I actually do make jewelry often); soldering/torch supplies, PMC/kiln/firebrick etc; polymer clay; scrapbooking sissors, cutters, papers; paint, pastels, chalk markers, colored pencils; decoupage stuff; crochet(thread and yarn); sewing machine; not to mention books/magazines full of ideas.
I sold the rubber stamps and embossing stuff: too messy...and the soap molds/candle-making paraphernalia.
Oooh, I forgot the silk flowers, ribbons, wreath-making stuff. I’m sure there’s more!
Maybe I should open a shop of my own. Craft Supply Addicts Inc.
Hahaha!
