I bought myself a Kayak on Friday. I took it out right away, but had to return to shore after about 15 minutes. Thunderstorms and little boats don't mix well on the water. It rained on and off all day on Saturday. But, Sunday was really nice and I'm ...

I hiked Great Falls, MD. Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Billy Goat trail 5.6 miles yesterday. I made the mistake of not bringing water. Felt dehydrated and was saved by a nice woman with an extra bottle of water.

Photos from my short trip to Enchanted Rock. It was quite windy atop the summit and the park was crowded but I enjoyed exploring this giant pile of pink granite.

Participated in the Christmas Bird Survey at Guadalupe Mountains National Park with a couple of friends. We slept in snow, hiked many miles and documented elusive birds.

If you're in the north east, crampons and snowshoes are still a very good idea. Just hiked in the southern Catskills Sunday, and while there was no snow at the parking lot level, there was over a foot at the summit. Be safe, be prepared.

I've been paddling 5 times the last 2 weeks. It's great to be on the water. Sat and Sun it rained both times, no problem for me or the people I was with. The smaller streams still have some recent blown-down timber in them. Water is still pretty ...

My siblings and I used to love playing barefoot outside, when we were kids, growing up in the Middle East. Since I've been hiking for a while, I decided to walk part of my hike barefoot. It was tough at the beginning, especially going over the ...

Did the house mountains trails today with a Roanoke MeetUp group. 10 plus miles. Some leaves just starting to turn. Awesome views of the Blue Ridge, and a great group of hikers. And the weather! Cloudy, high of 65.

I’m loving my morning walks at the moment. It’s been fresh but dry, and the last 2 mornings I’ve seen jays as well as the beautiful autumn trees.
