It's tough to find actual numbers unless someone just happens to do a current report on it. But it's roughly anywhere from 60 to over 70 % from year to year. I've seen as high as 77%. Now that's for the military budget for various types of use which include some aspects of drug other smaller aspects that are part of defense/pentagon cost.

I consider the military complex of being corporations which build weapons we buy from. Which they ultimately seem to draw in nearly half of that budget. Link 2 below. Which also shows how that filters back to representatives, CEO cost of those companies including lobbyist, and various other expenditures. Essentially it's a cesspool of waste of our tax dollars that's cycled around for individual criminal benefit for various world crimes against humanity.

@William_Mary Thank you. I have been trying to explain to my twin that we spend way more on the military than the welfare system. I got the number too high for the military. These link provide some needed figures.

Using the money to help our citizens and others around the world doesn't help politicians, the rich, or the economy. By economy I mean the rich as well. Using the money for the M.I.C. keeps the politicians funded and the corporations coffers full and then from the war machines comes the resource stealing in other countries. It's win/win for them. If you criticize it they will say that these corporations give people jobs, but at the same time they pay no taxes and fire 30,000 people at a time even though they also get taxpayer subsidies.....and the people they do give jobs to get shit pay where they have to work another job and/or apply for taxpayer funded welfare programs.

@silverotter11 the real question is, why don't we. With the current climate issue these corporations could continue to make money by switching over to alternative energy products. Why have we allowed nearly 5 decades to go by where they all knew what was coming and allowed other countries, especially China, take the lead. Can anyone imagine the advancements we had made in this arena if we had began this 5 decades ago?

The US power structure, which isn't our government, but the ruling class, have put all the efforts into dominating the planet on a warring platform instead. It's imperative the world citizens come to understand the reasons for this and unite for change. While we each think our country is working towards our benefits, they're actually working to keep us ignorant and suppressed for their own benefit and narcissist control over us. It's the ultimate drug of their choice beyond the others they do.
