The Kavanaugh hearing: Sexual allegations fuel the Democratic Party’s right-wing politics

[wsws.org]

(Once the allegation was leaked to the public, Ford’s attorney, Debra Katz, a long-time Democratic donor who gave thousands of dollars to Hillary Clinton’s campaigns and referred to Trump supporters as “miscreants,” called for an FBI investigation that could extend the nomination process—and dominate the airwaves—until Election Day.

Then, Democratic Party-aligned groups like Demand Justice began running election ads that frame Republicans as defenders of rape and sexual assault.)

Key word here, "Once". SO, outside of Fox News, a majority of the other main stream media would have us believe they have an agenda to bring down Trump and or people in his administration. Which leads me to think they and or the democratic party both knew this information before it was leaked. Now that it has been leaked needs to spin it. See where this is going, and where they didn't want to go?

(This is a revealing remark. According to the Democratic Party, what matters is not the fact that Trump and the Republicans have drastically slashed taxes for the wealthy, separated thousands of immigrant children from their parents, eviscerated workplace safety and environmental regulations, and drastically increased military spending at the expense of the social needs of the population.)

Go? Avoiding the real issues. (In the end, if the Democrats do win control of Congress, they will either help confirm Kavanaugh or ensure the nomination of an equally reactionary justice. The Democrats are in fundamental agreement with Trump and Kavanaugh’s right-wing program.)

Of course the dem leadership knew in advance, and of course the timing was politically motivated. Politics as usual. You can’t blame a skunk for being a skunk. Both sides work this way. Why? Because it works! And by “works”, I mean it riles the base, bringing votes, activism, and fundraising.

Look: politics is theater. Like the Roman colliseum, it is simply intended to distract, entertain, and occupy the masses, while the rulers rape and pillage as they please.

It’s a dialectic. The false illusion of a real choice. As long as people feel like that can change things with their vote, they won’t revolt.

Look at revolutions throughout history. They occur when people feel they had no say in how they were ruled. Fool them into thinking they do, and they may grumble and complain, but about “the other side”, not about their masters.

I disagree. You have too many things in the fire here right now for Dems to worry with. The idea would be to delay until after the election with hopes that you gain some control again so as to prevent a man form getting into a lifetime Supreme Court position. Kavanaugh says Roe v. Wade is "settled law" but nobody trusts that. Kavanaugh could also render a vote that would decide that Trump could "pardon himself" and this certainly was not true in 1974. They want this man in place for a reason and the Dems are not in agreement with that reason.

Then why aren't the democrats pursuing the real issues of his past? While spending a majority of their time only on a selected few managed issues in which they are actually avoiding any real attempt to even raise a substantial forum on those issues. Out with this claim of sexual abuse there has also been brought to light other issues about his behavior in school and groups he has been a part of. Painting a strong leaning towards a hard right almost fascist nature. Why isn't any of that being brought up?

@William_Mary I think it is being brought up but not in a hardline way so as to drive supporters away. They cannot in the minority claim the man as a fascist and get any real support here.

@DenoPenno they don't have to claim. They have a platform to intelligently raise the concerns with proper questioning. They are driving voters away via dereliction of duty. A number of articles have been written of supporters leaving the party and polls to provide it's happening. There has been a substantial gain in independent and progressive candidates running for office across the nation this primary cycle to indicate this is a fact. The democrats have no one to blame but themselves for this movement. One of my many of main gripes here have been those progressives trying to do so within the same corrupt party. Because they aren't going to be allowed to interrupt that parties agenda which is serving the oligarchs.

@William_Mary Yes, but I see a similar thing going on in both parties even as we write this today. I'm not sure either of them know how to deal with this without upsetting everything.
