Some of the land is unsuitable for conventional gardening and the number of people is rising faster than any nation on the planet. Going out into the bush also means coming in contact with certain diseases (Ebola for one). Right now Africa is really starting to struggle and the countries really need to introduce family planning programs. Engender Health is one such program [engenderhealth.org]
